Atlas House presents a single painting by artist Alex Robbins titled “Landscape with Stream and Weir” that reimagines Thomas Gainsborough’s pastoral Suffolk landscape through a process of manual reproduction and colour inversion. Working within the confines of a historic artwork – literally within the brushstrokes of another artist – the painting shifts attention away from the image and towards the physical dynamics of both perception and artistic value.

A new essay by Arne De Boever titled „Becoming Sculpture“ is accompanying the presentation, which considers the painting’s relationship to sculpture, objecthood and the act of looking.
„Displayed in a window space titled “Eyes Only”, the work in fact invites one to use the eyes as they are not supposed to be used: to feel one’s way, by touch, across the work, and handle it with one’s eyes. Alex Robbins (Alexander Fraser Robbins, *1978 in California)
Degrees from Goldsmiths College, London and New York University (Master of Fine Art, Bachelor of Science). He has presented his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions, establishing an active exhibition practice within the contemporary art landscape. His exhibitions reflect a sustained commitment to the development of his artistic research and have introduced his work to diverse audiences in both national and international contexts.

Atlas House is an artist-run project by Adam Thompson. It´s presenting solo, group, and thematic exhibitions, temporary interventions, and residencies alongside offsite projects. It provides invited artists with space and time to experiment and realise new projects.Based in a residential address in a former factory built in 1874 in Ipswich, Suffolk.
